Receiving them in his office, Chief Inyima thanked the Executives of the Association for honouring his invitation. He informed them that the  essence of the meeting was to familiarize with them as the  new Commissioner in the Ministry of Capital City Development, educate them on the duties and responsibilities of the Ministry and sensitize them on the development agenda of the present administration.

Chief Inyima warned the landlords and property developers against developing structures in the natural water channels to curb future flood occurrence in the State and further destruction of property as well as loss of human lives to yearly flooding.

He urged property owners in the State to fulfill their civic responsibility by paying their tenement rates and other charges promptly in order to ensure that Ebonyi State Capital continues to excel and its citizens enjoy the laudable programmes of the present administration of Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. He noted that, if the tenement rates is properly harnessed, it would enhance government internally generated revenue (IGR) and accelerate infrastructures beneficial to Ebonyians.

On his Part, the Director Tenement Rate Dept, Mr Okereke Ogbonnya informed the Landlords that tenement rate is a consolidation of all property rates and emphasized that the revenue accrueing  from these charges are used for infrastructural development in the State and not for personal use of the Ministry.

On their parts, the HOD Town Planning, Mrs Esther Nwite; HOD Administration and Supplies, Mr Edezie Simon, the counterpart, HOD Works, Mr Ugbo Obasi harped on the need to have building plan before embarking on any project in the capital city. They cautioned the Landlords to refrain from abusing the Abakaliki master plan and adhere to its professional ethics.

Earlier, in her presentation, Mrs Okoro who is the HOD Health and Environment said that majority of the residents failed to keep minimal sanitation standards as set by Ebonyi State government and added that defaulters will be apprehended and tried in the court to serve as deterrent to others.

Responding, the President of the Association, Chief Augustine Okoye, his Vice, Apostle Egbo Innocent and others who spoke on behalf of other Executives commended the Commissioner for calling the meeting and  pledged their support in assisting the government in its objective of developing Abakaliki capital territory and sustaining a cleaner environment in the State. They laid emphasis on non registration of the property owners in the Association and called on government to assist them, noting that poor generation of revenue is caused by the attitude of some landlords who are not members of the Association and they are not willing to pay tenement rates. They assured the government of Ebonyi State synergy and corporation in any moment.

FUNERAL OF AGBALAGBA’S MOTHER POSTPONED TO 17TH AND 18TH MAY 2023

The burial of the beloved late mother of Ebonyi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Chief Sunday Inyima (Agbalagba) has been postponed to 17th and 18th, May 2023.

Ezinne Mary Inyima (Nne Okpeye) passed on peacefully after brief illness and totally unexpected on 19th January 2023 and was fixed to be Laid to rest on 3rd and 4th May 2023.

Making public the postponement, Chief Sunday Inyima said,

“Good morning my very Distinguished friends, brothers and great Allies.
On behalf of the family of Chief Michael Inyima, I wish to thank all of you for the demonstration of love and kindness which you have shown via your tremendous support towards the burial of my beloved mother. God almighty will bless you all and replenish in million fold in Jesus name, Amen!

“The National Population Commission some time last week announced a time table for the conduct of the 2023 population census. The initial announcement was to run from 31st of April to the 6th of May 2023.

“Dear friends, recall that the date for the burial was fixed for 4th of May 2023. The National policy on partial restriction of movement on the actual days of the enumeration (3rd to 6th of May 2023) has necessitated this shift on the date of the burial.

“After due consultation with the Catholic Church, My friends at the National Population Commission and My family, a new date of 18th May 2023 was agreed upon for the burial with the wake-keep on the 17th of May 2023. All other items on the obsequies remains the same.

“We are fully aware of the back and front on some of their program by the NPC, but we had to take this decision for some obvious reasons.

“We regret very seriously the inconveniences this postpondment will bring but we appeal for your understanding since it is a national program.

“Once more, I appreciate you for the wonderful support and pray that God will continue to keep us and bless us as we work towards the new date. I love you all”
