
In line with the vision of our Governor , His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna
Nwifuru’s administration to make Abakaliki a city to reckon with, Hon Commissioner for Capital City Development, Chief Sunday Inyima today had a crucial meeting with the Executives of Landlord Association of Nigeria Ebonyi state Chapter.
Receiving them in his office, Chief Inyima thanked the Executives of the Association for honouring his invitation. He informed them that the essence of the meeting was to familiarize with them as the new Commissioner in the Ministry of Capital City Development, educate them on the duties and responsibilities of the Ministry and sensitize them on the development agenda of the present administration.
Chief Inyima warned the landlords and property developers against developing structures in the natural water channels to curb future flood occurrence in the State and further destruction of property as well as loss of human lives to yearly flooding.
He urged property owners in the State to fulfill their civic responsibility by paying their tenement rates and other charges promptly in order to ensure that Ebonyi State Capital continues to excel and its citizens enjoy the laudable programmes of the present administration of Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. He noted that, if the tenement rates is properly harnessed, it would enhance government internally generated revenue (IGR) and accelerate infrastructures beneficial to Ebonyians.
On his Part, the Director Tenement Rate Dept, Mr Okereke Ogbonnya informed the Landlords that tenement rate is a consolidation of all property rates and emphasized that the revenue accrueing from these charges are used for infrastructural development in the State and not for personal use of the Ministry.

On their parts, the HOD Town Planning, Mrs Esther Nwite; HOD Administration and Supplies, Mr Edezie Simon, the counterpart, HOD Works, Mr Ugbo Obasi harped on the need to have building plan before embarking on any project in the capital city. They cautioned the Landlords to refrain from abusing the Abakaliki master plan and adhere to its professional ethics.
Earlier, in her presentation, Mrs Okoro who is the HOD Health and Environment said that majority of the residents failed to keep minimal sanitation standards as set by Ebonyi State government and added that defaulters will be apprehended and tried in the court to serve as deterrent to others.

Responding, the President of the Association, Chief Augustine Okoye, his Vice, Apostle Egbo Innocent and others who spoke on behalf of other Executives commended the Commissioner for calling the meeting and pledged their support in assisting the government in its objective of developing Abakaliki capital territory and sustaining a cleaner environment in the State. They laid emphasis on non registration of the property owners in the Association and called on government to assist them, noting that poor generation of revenue is caused by the attitude of some landlords who are not members of the Association and they are not willing to pay tenement rates. They assured the government of Ebonyi State synergy and corporation in any moment.
